Student Athlete of the Week – February 4, 2013

Senior Colin Obsitnik is the Student Athlete of the Week for the week of February 4, 2013.

Colin began playing basketball in middle school when he played Peachtree City recreational basketball and then for Bennett’s Mill in seventh and eighth grade. Since his start, Colin has played at McIntosh for four years and lettered in varsity the past two years. He played on an AAU travel team the past four years.

Even with the overwhelming schedule, Colin has kept up with his schoolwork throughout his high school career. He said, “It’s tough to balance the hectic schedule of both basketball and school, but I just force myself to get my school work done because I know I can’t have basketball if I don’t succeed in school first.”

Playing for six years straight, Colin has had many basketball coaches. However, he said, “My middle school and travel basketball coach, Coach Owens and both of my school coaches have influenced by basketball career.” He believes that they have taught him that there is more to life than basketball and the desire to constantly win. “They have taught me what it means to be a part of a team, not just a basketball player,” said Colin.

Colin said that his favorite basketball season is this season, during his senior year closing his high school basketball career. The varsity basketball team has been consistently succeeding throughout the season. The McIntosh varsity boys are currently ranked number 8 in the state. Colin said, “It is really my teammates and fellow seniors that have made this season so great. We are all very close and have grown up playing basketball together.” Last year, the McIntosh boys’ basketball team was successful. Colin said, “My favorite basketball memory was when we beat Starr’s Mill at the buzzer last year.”

Though Colin has not officially decided on where he wants to attend college, he is extremely interested in the University of Georgia, where he is debating continuing his basketball career through intramurals. He plans to major in either business or law, and his dream job is a sports agent for major athletes in the NBA, MLB, and NFL.
