Ben Affleck, the actor known for famous roles in “Daredevil” and “Good Will Hunting,” has been cast as the new Batman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel and will side up along Henry Cavill. Following the announcement, a chorus of groans were heard from fans who felt somewhat disappointed and wanted Warner Bros. to drop Affleck from the role altogether. They pointed towards Ryan Gosling to have the role instead. According to the Huffington Post, this uproar even included a Twitter account named “#BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck” and a local petition signed by some 85,000 people who wished to have him removed completely from the cast.
However, fellow actor and “Good Will Hunting” co-star Matt Damon defended Affleck from the immense hate in an interview with the Huffington Post. “”I think it will be great,” Damon said, “It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. You know, he’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman!”
Vin Diesel, star of the recent summer hit “Fast and Furious 6” even chimed in to help as well. In another interview with the Huffington Post Diesel said, “Let him live is my motto, let him live. Let Warner Bros. hire whoever they want, let Ben do whatever he wants. He got an Oscar, give him some credit. Leave him alone.”
Affleck and Cavil will both suit up as DC Comics’ most famous heroes in 2015. Will Affleck prove all the haters wrong and be a better Batman than what they were expecting? Guess we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves.
