Kristen Campbell was chosen as the student athlete of the week for the week of January 28, 2013.
Campbell began to play basketball when she was five years old. She has played high school varsity for McIntosh since her freshman year and she also plays for an elite travel team for AAU for the Georgia Pearls.
Having to juggle schoolwork is difficult for athletes. Kristen said, “It’s hard, but I handle it. I just study before and after practice or on the bus ride to games.”
Kristen said that her dad has influenced her basketball career the most, but her coaches have also had an impact. She said, “They taught me dedication and teamwork that helps me off the court as well as on the court.”
The current McIntosh varsity season has been her favorite. Kristen said, “This high school season, I believe we’re the best we’ve been in a while and we can get far.” However, her favorite memory was being Fayette County High School last year in overtime, who had won state the previous year.
For college, Kristen said that she has gotten contacted by a couple of schools in Florida and Georgia and she aims to play basketball somewhere in Florida. Her dream job is to be a Nike representative and live in Florida when she gets older.
