The girls varsity tennis team started their Georgia state championship, they are currently region 3 5A champions, and they won the first round of the state playoff match 3-0 against Villa Rica High School. They won three out of five sets, at their second round of the state playoffs they lost against Lassiter high school with a score of 1-3.
During the tournament for the region varsity girls were motivated by all the previous games that they were most likely to win against other schools.
“[State championship] was really cool. During the games, I was very motivated to win the region. It felt like a great opportunity to showcase my skills. After winning, I felt as though it really brought us together as a team because now we had a great common victory,” varsity tennis player junior Yuyu Lin, said.
After a couple months into the season, tennis varsity girls spending a lot time practicing and playing games together.
“The tennis team overall is a really supportive community and I feel like knowing each other’s weaknesses and strengths helps all of us improve, because it tells us what we should work on more. I think experiencing the newly built courts at McIntosh was a really good start to my freshman tennis season. So that was good,” freshman varsity tennis player, Bleuez Camille, said.
Overall the wins of the varsity girls team have been great for the girls and for supporters who are coming there to see their games.
“The team games are going well. Our team practices the majority of weekdays that we do not have matches and our coaches make sure that we are rested up and hydrated for when we do have matches. That is our best way of staying sharp for the season,” Lin said.
