Chiefs track & field wins OLM Invitational

 

Both the men’s and women’s MHS track & field teams won the Our Lady of Mercy Invitational, the last meet before Region, this past Thursday, April 1. The boys team finished with 125 points while the girls team finished with 94 points.

In the two mile run, freshman Rachel Ward placed second followed by junior Camille Norman. Sophomores Brian Doyle, Alan Bowers and Tyler Nigro swept the event on the boys side.

Senior Joy Cummings won the 4oom dash in a time of 1:00.72, and sophomore Alyssa LeClaire placed third in 1:02.34. Senior Taylor Huntley finished second in the 400m in a time of 51.02 on the boys side. Seniors Johnathan Hall and Josh Reynolds placed first and second in the 800m.

In the 100m dash, senior Haley Hollimon won with a time of 13.07 seconds. On the boys side, senior Sebastian James finished second (11.15) followed by junior Khadim Jones (11.17).

In the 110m hurdles, senior Michael Daprano won (17.25) followed by junior Ethan Watson (18.36). In the 100m hurdles, senior Airyn Nash finished third in 19.77. In the 300m hurdles, freshman Monique Atkinson placed third (53.80). On the boys side, senior Michael Daprano won in a time of 41.16.

Haley Hollimon finished second in the 200m dash (27.66) and senior Joy Cummings placed third (27.67). Junior Khadim Jones finished second (22.63) and senior Darious Stokes placed third (22.77) for the boys.

MHS boys swept the mile; seniors Joshua Mattingly and Andew Jaeger placed first (4:48) and second (4:54), and freshman Jackson Routon finished third (4:57). Sophomore Brian Doyle also broke the five minute mark, placing fourth in 4:59. On the girls side, sophomores Alyssa LeClaire and Nicole Zaubi placed first (5:34.42) and second (5:34.85) respectively.

The boys 4x100m team won the event (43.09) while the girls relay team was the runner-up (52.52). In the 4x400m relay, the McIntosh girls teams finished second (4:15) and third (4:27). On the boys side, McIntosh won an exciting race in 3:30 while the B team placed third in 3:42.

In field events, senior Connor Nash won the high jump with a leap of 5-10. In long jump, senior Cameron Sims and junior Leo Tsunematsu placed second and third. MHS swept the one-five positions in discus with junior Ben Naber, senior Clay McKinney, junior Aidan O’Connell, freshman Keaton Wimbish and junior Stuart Copeland. The boys swept the one-four spots in shot put with senior Travis Bertke, sophomore Owen Peacock and seniors Alex Rojas and Freddy Botet. In girls high jump, junior Morgan Frederick won with a jump of 5-00, and sophomore Kirsten Fink finished third in 4-04. Junior Tania Nash won the girls discus with a throw of 70 feet while junior Maria Furukawa placed third with a throw of 62-11.

The next track meet for the Chiefs will be Region at Starr’s Mill on Wednesday, April 16.
