Track & field season begins at Lions Chick-fil-A Showcase

(Photos at the bottom) Last Saturday, MHS track and field traveled to Westlake High School in Camp Creek for the first meet of the season. The third annual Lions Chick-fil-A Showcase hosted 21 teams, and both the MHS boys and girls teams placed well.

The girls team took home a third place trophy with 62 points, edging out Forest Park by one point and placing behind only the 6A teams of Westlake and Northside Columbus. Event winners included the 4×800 meter relay team (time of 10:45), sophomore Alyssa LeClaire in the mile (5:43) and junior Morgan Frederick in the high jump (4-8). MHS swept the girls two mile run with first place runner sophomore Nicole Zaubi  (12:50) and second place runner junior Camille Norman (13:50).

The boys team placed sixth with 50 points. Senior Taylor Huntley, who won the 800 meter run and the team event at the state meet last year, started off the 2014 season on a high note by winning both the mile (4:37) and the 800 meter run (1:59.77). Senior Clay McKinney placed third in the discus (106-05).
