The UFC Freedom 250 event is being held on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington D.C. June 14, 2026. The event is being staged as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, causing it to be one of the most unorthodox and talked-about sporting events in recent history.
For the main event, undisputed UFC lightweight champion Ilia “El Matador” Topuria will face the interim lightweight champion Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje in a title settling bout. The co-main event features former double champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira as he attempts to capture a third belt and title, this time against former interim champion Ciryal “Bon Gamin” Gane. If Pereira succeeds, it would make him the first fighter in UFC history to hold three different belts in three different weight classes, also known as triple champion.
The scale of this event is some of the biggest the UFC has ever seen. UFC CEO Dana White announced plans to install multiple large screens at The Ellipse capable of hosting up to 85,000 spectators for a unique public viewing experience. A fan festival is also scheduled for the day before the event, featuring live music and UFC athlete appearances.
The promotion revenue is expected to cover all costs of the event, including roughly $700,000 to restore the White House lawn afterwards, and no public funds are being used. Total cumulative production costs are estimated to have reached as high as $60 million, passing even the budget for the UFC’s landmark Las Vegas Sphere event.
Not everyone has been on board however. The event has drawn criticism due to its political overtones, given President Trump’s anticipated attendance and close relationship with Dana White.
White has been directly pushing back. “This isn’t about politics,” White said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. But at the same time Ronda Rousey criticizes the event calling it an “oligarch schmooze fest,” causing fighters and fans alike to question her credibility.
The event will air only on Paramount+. Crypto.com was announced as a co-presenter, adding a $1 million cryptocurrency bonus pool for the top performers of the card.
Whether you’re a fan of MMA or not, UFC Freedom is looking to be a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle, something that’s both everything for the sport yet also greater than the sport itself, unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
