The Varsity Wrestling team recently wrapped up their season, finishing second place in the region and 19th place out of the 61 teams in the Georgia 5A Division for the boys team. The girls team also closed out their season with two third place awards under their belt. They additionally traveled to Team Sectionals this season, making it to State.
“I’m satisfied with my performance and some of my friends, but as a team, I think we still have a lot of work to do in order to place top five at state,” sophomore wrestler Amir Mamadsaidov said.
The team accomplished their season goal of qualifying for State and Sectionals, additionally having several wrestlers place. They had their Sectional competition on Feb. 7 and went to State Championships on Feb. 11 and 12, less than a week later.
At Sectionals, Mamadsaidov placed first, followed by Joseph Patrie, Kasen Standish, Patrick Ward and Jack Lavinder ranking among the top eight spots.
The team will have their banquet on Sunday, March 1, where they will give out awards to their best wrestlers of the season.
“This wrestling season was full of sacrifices for me,” Mamadsaidov said. “I think we did good this year and we are hopefully going to do better next year.”
