On Thursday, Nov 13, the McIntosh Varsity Flag football team had their final games between Whitewater High and Spalding County. Whitewater won the first game with a score of 0-20 while the Lady Chiefs won the second game against Spalding, going into overtime with a score of 6-0.
“My mindset was just to have fun because these were our last two games and I just wanted to have the best time with my team,” junior Janeesa Hayes said.
I then asked the girls what they thought of their performance overall.
“We probably could have done better on some things, specifically, offense things, as we didn’t really know what was going on, but we probably could improve,” sophomore Trinity Rosario said.
With this being the final game of the flag football season, the ending was heartfelt moments for the team.
“Bittersweet” As Hayes described it. “Bittersweet because there was a lot of different connections and like everybody got to build like different bonds with a bunch of different teammates that they have never played with before.”
Most emotions were still relatively the same but did vary.
“I feel sad,” Rosario said. “I’m gonna miss the seniors most definitely. It was my first season and year here, so I’m definitely gonna miss some but I’m glad I got to meet a lot of new people,”
This year was the second year of having a flag football team, Coach Dallas Regan reflects on the team’s work this season.
“Our season was a great testament to the work-ethic of our female athletes. This season they were dealt a brand new coaching staff in only the 2nd year ever of having a Flag Football team at McIntosh High School. They had to learn a new offense and a new defense and they responded very well in rising to that challenge,” Reagan said.
