The Chiefs defense lines up for a play as they attempt to hold Morrow scoreless.

This year’s Homecoming game proved to be successful for the McIntosh football team who, through the mist and cool weather, defeated the Morrow Mustangs (35-6).

The Chiefs held a firm lead from the start when in the first quarter, senior Taylor Casterline scored a touchdown off a reception.

In the second quarter, freshman Kyle Riesselmann made a touchdown that would put the chiefs ahead 14-0 with help from kicker senior Parker Romo, who added on the extra point after the touchdown run.  (Parker made every extra point he attempted, going five for five for the evening.)  Later in the second quarter, after making a fumble with 1:40 on the clock, the chiefs  found a pathway to the end zone.  After a pass to the 11 yard line by junior Zach Sanders, sophomore Bradley Ector punched it into the end zone for yet another McIntosh touchdown widening the gap between the Chiefs and the Mustangs to 21 points with only 14.2 seconds remaining in the half.

Later, with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter,  running back sophomore Bradley Ector ran for his second touchdown of the evening lengthening the McIntosh lead to 28-0.  No one scored during the final seven minutes of the third quarter.

As the fourth quarter began,  Kyle Riesselmann threw a touchdown pass to freshman Dane Kinamon who scored and brought the score to 35-0.  Then, with 3:14 remaining in the game, Morrow quarterback Josiah Dixon snuck into the end zone for a touchdown, scoring the only points Morrow would have for the night.

When asked about their performance, senior and safety Adam Gallagher said, “Many people do not understand just how hard our region is this year.  Northgate and Starr’s Mill are two very talented teams.  Our record seems to be all that people think about without taking into consideration the talent of other teams.  I think the Homecoming game was a dominate performance even with our starting quarterback out.  The team has done very well in filling the gaps with all the injuries we have had this season.  Overall, I am proud of the team’s hard work and dedication.  I hope to see good things come out of them for the rest of the season.”

Coach Lee Belknap said, “We were very pleased with our team’s performance Friday night. Our offense produced 408 yards of total offense. Our defense held Morrow to 109 yards of total offense. Notable performances came from Zach Sanders/QB, Bradley Ector / RB, Brody King / LB, Derek Bertke/ DL, and Parker Rome / K-P. “
