The results of the Freshman Class election for Student Government representatives are in. Olivia Hite was elected as president, with Sarah Park being voted in as vice president. Seung-a Baek will be class secretary, and Amy Bragg will be the class parliamentarian.

Bragg, who automatically received the position of parliamentarian because no one else was running for it, said, “I want to make sure that if anyone has any suggestions for how to make the school better, that they are heard.”

The student government is in charge of organizing events and special opportunities for the school or their specific class. Their responsibilities include planning the homecoming dance, the parade, raising funds, and caring for the overall being of McIntosh.

Student government also teaches leadership skills to aspiring students. Park was drawn to running for office because of what she could learn. She explained, “I ran for vice president because I wanted to help the president and learn what I should prepare for, as I want become next year’s class president.”

Campaigning played a large part in the election. Posters were seen around the school in the stairwells, hallways, and cafeteria. Hite said, “I spent a lot of time making creative posters, and I definitely spread the word to my friends and made obnoxious announcements in the locker room. I didn’t campaign all on my own. I had a lot of friends by my side who I didn’t even ask to help me out, yet I saw ‘Vote for Olivia’ on their snapchat stories.”

The new four student body government members hope to have a successful year ahead of them and to care well for our school.

In addition to the elected students, Thomas Kohane and Amy Kim also ran for office.
