Tornado damage like this in Washington, IL, can knock on the front door of any Georgia town, and this is the time of year when it is most possible.

As March comes to an end and April approaches, Georgia citizens need to be on guard for more intense weather.  In years past, Georgia has experienced severe weather during this period. This time of year  we often have both warm and cold air combine with gulf moisture and a strong jet stream for a feeding ground prone to producing severe weather.  As these components come together, they provide for instability and rotation within a storm.

In the past, Georgia has quite often experienced tornadoes during this time.  For example, the tornado outbreak of April 2011 was one of the worst tornado outbreaks in the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia, costing lots of money and even more heartbreak.

Freshman Abby Leedy said, “This weather is definitely something to watch out for.  We need to be staying alert.  I absolutely hate this type of weather, but things like this happen.”
