Semester exam exemption policies stay consistent with previous years

Grades will be finalized for the purpose of exam exemptions this Tuesday, December 10. After Tuesday, any fluctuation in grades will not alter the exemption status, however, grades will still matter, as the semester is not yet over.

Students can exempt the semester exam in two classes with the Academic Exemption status (95% or above in both classes and no unexcused absences) or one exam with the Attendance Exemption status (passing grade in the class and no more than 5 excused absences for the semester). Although Academic Exemptions will not change after Tuesday, the Attendance Exemption can be revoked up until the exam itself, if the student exceeds the allotted number of absences. (Absences counted for exemption status include checking in or out as well as missing a day.)

The exams for Advanced Placement (AP) classes cannot be exempted. Classes that have state-wide End of Course Tests (EOCTs) use the EOCT as the semester exam and so those students will not need to take a second exam in those classes, unless it is an AP class, in which case the exam is required. Forms for exemptions will be available this upcoming week.

Semester exams start on Wednesday, December 18 and last through the following Friday.

As semester exams approach, students start trying to remember what they were supposed to have learned in August.
