Does “The Great Gatsby” live up to its title?

“The Great Gatsby” proved to be a hit as it opened this past weekend. Audience members were very excited for the release of this film, showing up in high-heels, flappers and suits. Did it live up to its title though?

I think “The Great Gatsby” truly was great. Everything from the music to the graphics to the acting were all fantastic. Mixing modern hip/hop and techno with 80’s jazz music was actually a terrific combination. It was a different sound that still had elements of that time period, but caught the attention of this day and age as well.

All of the graphic were beautiful. Gatsby’s house was wonderfully portrayed, and the parties looked simply exquisite. The visuals made the audience want to be a part of the great life of Gatsby. It all looked so real. The acting certainly helped with the “real” aspect. Leonardo DiCaprio was absolutely perfect for the role of Gatsby. He really brought the character to life and added an unexplained awe to the film. I thought every character was perfectly casted, bringing the words on paper to reality.

Though there might have been a couple of moments the film could have been a bit more exciting and stray from the book, I admire the director’s decision to keep the movie as close to the book as he could. I thought it was a great movie that really did live up to its title. It won’t disappoint and is worth your time and money.
