Homecoming changes throughout the years
Oct 6, 2015
Homecoming has changed throughout the history of McIntosh. From McIntosh’s beginning, Homecoming has been the crown jewel of the football season.
The Homecoming game is the football team’s moment to sit in the limelight.
Before the school had a sports stadium, the football team practiced at the LEC and played their games in the Fayette County High School stadium. They did not have a Homecoming during those years. Once the stadium was built, Homecoming festivities ensued.
The Homecoming game pits the football team against a team that will highlight the team’s strengths. This year, the football team faced off against Morrow, a school with a 1 – 6 record so far this season.
There are many new traditions that have made a place in Homecoming. The Powder Puff game, for example, is only seven years old. Ms. Laurette Edenfield, a history teacher, is in charge of that event.
Before the current gym was built, the dances were much different. The dance used to be in the cafeteria during McIntosh’s early years, and, according to Mr. Mark Kinest, a history teacher, the dance “was not nearly as popular as it is now.”
