Chords should be free

Seniors have been gathering their chords they’ve earned for graduation. Most chords are $13 each, and this payment seems excessive.

Senior Tori Jaekal said, “If we earn the award to get a chord, we shouldn’t have to pay for it because we worked so hard for it. Also, not everyone can afford to pay for chords.” The chords should be a right that has to be earned, and success or award should soon follow. However, hard work bring success and rewards, but the rewards come at a price.
Senior Raven Tilton said, “I earned five chords and that’s a lot of money. It should be an honor that we get for free.” Raven Tilton is not the only senior that is receiving a plethora of graduation chords; many students at MHS receive chords for their diligent work ethic and grades.
Senior Alex Ward said, “Class dues should go toward paying for chords because we’re already paying money each year individually, and the $75 for senior dues is a lot of money on top of everything else the school expects us to pay for.”
