Chemistry students prepare for tie-dye lab
Mar 27, 2015
Chemistry students in Ms. Dowse’s and Mr. De Lisle’s classes will be partaking in the annual tie-dye t-shirt lab on April 2-3. However, before the fun begins, students need to bring in their supplies, and students must give the supplies directly to the teachers.
The first item is obviously the shirt. This must be a new, white, 100 percent cotton shirt.
Second, each student must bring a roll of paper towels. Based on previous years, Ms. Dowse and Mr. De Lisle estimate that each each student will go through roughly half a role by himself.
The third item is one dollar to help pay for the dye.
Fourth, students will need lots if old newspapers to cover the tables to keep them from being dyed.
Fifth, each student should bring in a gallon sized plastic bag to transport the shirt back home from school.
Sixth, students need to bring in some rubber bands, which will be used to make the designs on the shirt itself.
Finally, students need a pair of disposable gloves to wear during the experiment. This will be the line of defense for students’ hands so they do not have to spend all Spring Break with purple fingers.
Students who wish to dye more items than the one t-shirt must confirm their plans with their teachers in advance.
Ms. Dowse reminds students to be careful during the experiment. Even though students will be wearing the usual aprons, shoes will be exposed.
