Miss MHS competition begins
McIntosh is hosting the annual Miss MHS competition. It will be held Saturday, March 8, in the auditorium.
All female students are eligible to participate in Miss MHS. In past years, this competition was open to both boys and girls. However, due to the lack of boys’ interest, the competition consists of only girls this year.
Typically, the scholarship program is sponsored by the choral department at other schools, but at McIntosh the people of SGA pick up the costs. The winner’s prize consists of money that can be used only for scholarship purposes. This prize depends on the amount of people that sign up.
While some pageants tend to focus solely on a the competitors’ outward appearances, Miss MHS includes these various elements: talent, interview, poise, and a personal resume turned in beforehand. Each aspect is taken into careful consideration by the judges.
Shelby Bock, a junior, is one of the competitors in this year’s Miss MHS competition. She said, “I think the talent portion [of Miss MHS] is going to be exciting.” In order to perfect a routine, performers know they must practice hard. “I’ve been watching lots of ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’ to pick up the technique,” she said.
Many students at McIntosh High School are looking forward to the competition. “It’s always exciting to know people in the productions at McIntosh, especially ones on stage,” said junior Natalie Barker. “I’ve been to a couple pageants before, and I’ve always enjoyed seeing everyone in their beautiful dresses. I think that’s my favorite part–the dresses.”
