It’s Thursday, right after school. The sun is blistering and the sky’s blue. Many students are training for sports near and on the field. Many of those students are on the Track team, preparing for the upcoming meet. One of those players, Senior Mamadou Boube — who ran hurdles and 400 meters for the McIntosh Track team — has been breaking records ever since the spring season began.
“I broke two school records this year and we only started two months ago, and I’ve exceeded expectations that I thought I wouldn’t,” Boube said.
Some of Boube’s best times include a 37.59 on the 300-meter Hurdles and a 54.67 on the 400m Hurdles. Boube started running track back in his freshman year, and he showed promise, according to Track Coach Adam Daigler.
“I mean, he was young, in terms of an athlete, he was still a middle school athlete when he got here, but you could tell he was talented,” Daigler said.

Throughout the years, he’s grown into a leader on the track team, thanks to the help and encouragement of the teammates around him.
Daigler attributed some of his success to the mentoring of Marcus Malone, a former track runner for McIntosh and current runner for Huntingdon in national competitions.
“Seniors don’t realize the importance that they have when it comes to a mentor in the future of the freshman,” Daigler said.
Boube also said that the teammates around him have helped keep him competitive and at their best.
“I feel like everyone’s pushing each other, ‘cause like, you know, iron sharpens iron. [So it’s] a lot more competitive this year, with everyone running faster, I would say,” Boube said.
Daigler said Boube is a silent leader, leading by example and doing the right things even when nobody is looking. He also serves as a communicator for the coach, making announcements for him, and learning the hard lessons to demonstrate it for the rest of the team.
“He’s awesome, I’ll leave it at that,” Daigler said.
Boube hopes to continue with his athletic career after high school and into college, though he’s not sure where wants to go yet.
“I have a few schools recruiting me, but my top choice right now is definitely [the Air Force Academy],” Boube said.
Despite it being his last year, he’s still chasing after records, training hard on the track.
“It’s definitely a little sad. Like, I haven’t really gotten a chance to sit down and think about it being my last year and get sad about it, I’ve just been trying to, you know, run fast. Break as many records as I can, you know, really leave my mark on McIntosh,” Boube said.
The team will compete in their next track meet will be at Banneker High, on April 1 at 4:30 PM.

Great article! My record is actually in the 300mh – 37.59 (I don’t run the 110mH, that is a very old time), as well as the 4x400m relay & 4x200m relay. And my 400mH is 54.67, but once again great article!
