Last season, Varsity Girls Soccer finished their season with an overall 13-7 finish, making it all the way to the 2025 GHSA State Girls Soccer Championships and ranking 6-1 in the region. This year, players think that the team has the potential to achieve the success they did last season. Starting off their 2025–2026 season, Varsity Girls Soccer had a home scrimmage on Feb. 6 against Walton High School, which resulted in a score of 1–2. Scoring the one goal for McIntosh was senior Kennedy Williams, wearing jersey number nine. The scrimmage marked the team’s first on-field competition of the season as they prepare for upcoming regular-season matches.

“The biggest takeaway from the game before the season starts is that our team has a lot of potential to do really well this season and a lot of talent to showcase. We did really well in keeping our shape and staying organized. One thing we can improve on is defending set pieces. With practice and time, our team can definitely live up to our potential this season,” Williams said.

Scoring the only point in the game, Williams emphasizes her contributions to the team’s win.

“I was very excited to score a point against Walton and start my team out with the first goal of the season. It’s always exciting to make an impact in the game. I was also very excited to celebrate with my teammates,” Williams said.

During the scrimmage, Williams played as an attacking midfielder.

“When playing a team like Walton, where they have a really strong midfield, it can get hard and tiring, but I feel I did a good job.”

Scoring goals in soccer is all about communication both on the field and off. Senior Madeline Rice emphasizes that the team’s support and communication contributed to her performance during the scrimmage.

“[During the scrimmage] our team communicated a lot which helped me play better on the field and from the sidelines our other teammates cheered us on, which helped us play better and stay persistence,” Rice said.

Following the match, Williams reflected on the team’s performance and areas for improvement.

“I think our team did a great job against Walton. We competed and gave all our effort against a top 10 team in the state. We played well together given some of the girls haven’t played with the others, and everyone made a contribution to the game. Overall, I think this game is a start to many great games and a great season.”

Their next game is Feb. 13 against Whitewater at the McIntosh soccer field. You can get tickets off of gofan.co.
