Dribble drive: McIntosh JV basketball season begins

Heading into the 2025-2026 season, despite their previous losses, The McIntosh Boys Basketball coach Tariq Shah seems hopeful for the upcoming season.

The JV Basketball Boys’ coach is entering his third season at McIntosh as the JV coach and fourth as a varsity assistant.

When reflecting on this season’s group compared to past years, Coach Shah says he notices improvements.

“They are more talented than previous years and focus more on development in the off season,” Shah said.

Shah hopes to improve the team’s collaborative abilities.

“[I aim to focus on] team culture of effort, communication and working together,” Shah said.

Besides the team’s win-loss record, Shah believes that success is visible through how the team treats one another.

“[Success] looks like a team that has put teammates above themselves. Equally a team where everyone felt valued and learned how to be a better basketball player and, most importantly, an accountable young man,” said Shah.

Beyond basketball skills, Coach Shah hopes to teach the players some important life skills and lessons.

“[I want them] to grow big in character, compassion, kindness, passion and courage. [I want them] to also understand that they can be better at basketball if they work on the fundamentals regularly,” Shah said.

The Chiefs played against Morrow on Dec. 10 and lost 24-52.

The Chiefs will play next on Dec. 13 at Sandy Creek.

McIntosh sports events can be watched on NFHS Network and tickets to games can be purchased at McIntosh Athletics.
