McIntosh girls’ lacrosse Coach resigns ahead of season

Categories:

On Dec. 20, 2024, an email was sent out to the families of the girls on last season’s girls’ lacrosse team. The email stated that due to “unforeseen circumstances,” coach Dustin Fowler has resigned from McIntosh. Fowler had been hired last year specifically to be the girls’ lacrosse coach. They continued to state in the email that they would “work through figuring out a solution.” Multiple players were asked to comment on the coach’s resignation; they declined.

On Jan. 8, Kaytie Scholz was announced as the new coach in a lacrosse group chat message. The announcement was made by last year’s assistant coach, Christine Overholt.

“Having to adapt to new coaching on such short notice is not ideal, but I don’t think it will take anything away from the talent or team we have built,” senior Ava O’Clair said. O’Clair has played lacrosse for McIntosh since she was a freshman.

As the lacrosse team prepares for their upcoming season, they work out in the school gym as well as practice their stickwork on the football field.

“It’s nice to have pre-season work out so everyone can condition and get on a similar level to start the season,” junior Elsie Wood said. Wood has played for the team last season.

The girls’ lacrosse tryouts for this upcoming season will take place on Jan. 27 and 28 from 4 P.M until 6 P.M at McIntosh High School. The first girls’ lacrosse season practice will take place on Wednesday Jan. 29 from 4 P.M until 6 P.M followed by Thursday and Friday.
