Golf heads to State in 2024 – Girls win state title

The Girls Golf team won the 5A state championship on May 21.

“Only 12 teams make it into the state tournament. The girls who will be competing at the state tournament are Adalynne Forchette, Lily Sitler, Lana Spradley, Cheyenne Jaucian and Kayli Chang,” Coach Brad Yarbrough said.

The McIntosh Golf season began in late February, with a student on the bagpipes beginning tournaments.

The girls’ golf team finished second in the area tournament and is moving on to state on May 20 and 21 at Okefenokee Country Club.

Overall, girls golf has won 4th in GHSA High School Invitational, 4th in the North Gwinnett Invitational Tournament, and were undefeated in all regular season nine hole matches.

From the boys golf team, Trey Malloy has qualified as an individual to pay in the same state tournament as the girls.

The boys team also placed 5th in the Granger Shootout tournament.

Boys Soccer Wins State Championship

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the McIntosh Varsity Boys Soccer team won their GHSA 5A State Final game against Decatur High School by a score of 2-1.

The McIntosh Chiefs Varsity Soccer team have stayed undefeated throughout the 2024-2025 soccer season. The Chiefs have stayed undefeated with a score of 20-0.

On April 14, The Varsity Boys played their first round the GHSA playoffs and won 6-0 over Dutchtown High School.

On April 24, they played their second round and won 2-1 against Cross Keys. The team moved on to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Quarterfinals on April 30.

McIntosh High School’s Boys Varsity team is the number one team in the “Top 25” in the country, according to Youth Soccer Central.

The Chiefs ended up winning the Quarterfinals against Dalton High School 1-0.

On May 3, The Chiefs competed in the Final Four against their last year’s Elite eight rival, Midtown High School. The Chiefs won their game 2-1.

The Varsity team will now move on to the GHSA State Championship against Decatur High School, on May 9, at 7:30 PM, at Duluth High School.

Track and Field

The McIntosh track and field team  made it to the track and field state championships this year in the 5A category. The competition was held May 9-11 at Carrollton High School.

Tennis Boys and Girls are Region Champions

The McIntosh Boys Tennis Team also became Region 3- 5A champions, making it into the first round of the 2023-2024 GHSA Class AAAAA tournament.

On April 18, the first game was against Eagle’s Landing High School, beating them four to zero. With the first round win, on April 24, they moved to round two against Decatur High School, which they moved forward betting them four to one. With the second round win, they went to face Cambridge High School, falling by two points. With the third round lost, they were eliminated from the tournament.

The McIntosh Girls Tennis team became Region 3- 5A champions with the record of three to two, making it into the first round of the 2023-2024 GHSA Class AAAAA tournament. On April 18, the first game was against Dutchtown High School, beating them three to one. With the first round win, on April 24, they moved to round two against Decatur High School, which they fell, zero to four. With the second round lost, they were eliminated from the tournament.

 

The Boys Varsity Baseball team

The 2023-2024 McIntosh High School Varsity Baseball Team had  a 23-10 record.
They went to conference finals with a record of 7-2.

On April 23, the Chiefs faced Jones County in the first round of the playoffs.  Game 1, the Chiefs won 5 to 0 and the next game they won 8 to 5, beating Jones 2-0 moving onto the next round.

The second round of the playoffs on April 29, McIntosh baseball faced Coffee High School. The first game they won 3 to 0 and the next game they won 4 to 1 again winning 2-0 moving onto the third round.

On May 4, McIntosh’s hopes to attend their second State Championship game was defeated by Loganville High School.  the first game was 2 to 1 and the next game was 7 to 5 losing to them 2-0 ending their season.

Girls Soccer headed to Final Four

After a season resulting in fifteen wins, three losses and one tie, the Lady Chiefs became region champions after moving onto the 2023-2024 GHSA Class 5A tournament. The girls then made it to the Final Four where they lost their match 1-0 against Cambridge on May 2, putting an end to their season.

“For us, there’s always that goal of going for that state championship, trying to win another,” said Casey Kreitner, the Lady Chiefs’ coach.

Girls LAX

Girls varsity lacrosse season has come to an end. The playoff game was on Wednesday, April 24 against Roswell High School, and the team lost 19-2. Overall, the varsity team won 14 out of 19 of their games for the season.

Despite the losses, there were many records set this season.

In the final game, senior Jayla Jackson secured her 100th ground ball, becoming the second member to do so in program history. Jackson also got her 100 career draw controls on April 11.

Senior Lauren Lawson received her 100 career points. Senior Camden Maday got her 100 career ground balls on April 17 and also set the single season record for ground balls (50) and caused turnovers (39). 

Freshman Riley Lemessurier got her 100 career points on April 18, becoming the first freshman to ever reach this accomplishment in the program’s history.

Four players of the Lady Chiefs Lacrosse team were chosen as “Varsity All-Stars,” who will be representing the “blue squad” in a game, coached by Coach Fowler on May 18 at 10 AM. The game will take place at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Georgia.  The four players are Jayla Jackson, Lauren Lawson, Camden Maday and Riley Lemessurier.

The team had one last team dinner on May 8 at Due South. Coaches presented awards, stats and also gave speeches.

The JV players who received an award were freshman Lily Johnson (Offensive Player of the Year), freshman Peighton Gillis (Midfielder Player of the Year), freshman Danielle Weber (Defensive Player of the Year), freshman Hannah Mallard (Most Improved), freshman Hayden Packer (200% Award), eighth grader Bernadette Votin (MVP).

On Varsity the awards were given to junior Cat Chambers (Most Improved), freshman Riley LeMessurier (MVP), senior Camden Maday (Defensive Player of the Year), senior Jayla Jackson (Midfielder of the Year), senior Lauren Lawson (Offensive Player of the Year), senior Riley Pruitt (200%).

Boys LAX

The McIntosh Boys’ Lacrosse team competed at multiple schools and their final record was six wins and eleven losses.

The team started off with a three to zero record then experienced their first loss at Pace Academy and first win at Ola High School.

Lily Johnson, Staff
Lily Johnson is a freshman at McIntosh High School. It is her first year on the Trail and she is looking forward to working with the other members of the staff and getting to know more about journalism. As a part of Beta Club, Johnson enjoys helping those around her and being a part of a team. She likes volunteering at PetSmart with the Fayette Humane Society. She loves being able to know that she’s helping the animals be put into good homes and will be able to live out the rest of their lives happily. She also volunteers at Clothes Less Traveled. Johnson enjoys reading, working out and cooking. She also enjoys many forms of art such as writing, painting, pottery and music. Some of her favorite musical artists are Lil Peep, The Weeknd, Arctic Monkeys, Chase Atlantic and The Neighbourhood. Outside of school, she likes to play lacrosse, read and skate. Johnson has been playing for Peachtree City Warriors for almost three years.
