The boy’s tennis team traveled to Statesboro on April 15 to compete in the state tennis tournament. After the boys won their regional tournament on April 11, they were welcomed to compete in the state tournament. The top tennis teams in the state of Georgia are invited to the Statesboro tournament. After the two-day event, the best Georgia high school tennis teams are named. The team won both the matches they competed in.

In 2019 season, the tennis team has 22 players; they played three singles matches and two doubles matches. Freddie Lawrence played the first singles match, Jaron Rosenberg played the second singles match, and Caleb Caliborne played the third. Alex Landa and Simon Mahler played a doubles match, and Jason Zhang and Arsh Khanwani played the other doubles match.  Sophomore Freddie Lawrence has been playing with the McIntosh tennis team for two years. “[The team] is always hype,” Lawrence said. “I expected that we’d win every match.”

In the first round of the tournament, the boys defeated Fayette County High School. They won 5-0 in their match. During the second day of the tournament, the tennis players were able to defeat Starrs Mill High School in another blowout, 5-0.  Junior Jakob Mackanych felt confident about the tournament. “We are undefeated in the regular season,” Mackanych said. “The season started off slow; we didn’t establish any dominance throughout the teams, but now we are able to focus on our strengths.”

Sophomore Parker Henderson supported the team during the tournament. “The tournament was really intense for everyone on the team,” Henderson said. “It’s good to know that the practice was worth it.”
