The varsity volleyball team ended their season last year with a state championship win. To start off this season, the team beat Newnan in two sets, however, they suffered their first loss last Thursday to St. Pius X Catholic High School, falling two sets to one.

In the first set, St. Pius scored the first three points before junior Jessie Doyal, who is committed to Davidson College, scored the Chiefs’ first point. The Lady Chiefs pulled ahead for the rest of the set until St. Pius came back to tie it 24-24. St. Pius beat McIntosh 26-24 in the first set.

St. Pius trailed the entirety of the second set, before losing to the Chiefs 25-19.

McIntosh led the third set until St. Pius pulled ahead with the score of 24-23. St. Pius eventually won the set 27-25, therefore winning the match.

“We felt we had to come out strong because of winning the championship last year and the loss showed us what we need to improve on to win state this year also,” sophomore Claire Lewis said. “We are going to work even harder than we were before and work on specifics of the game that are crucial to win this state championship.”
