Varsity basketball player for the Lady Chiefs, Junior Kennedi Miller, was awarded with Athlete of the Week for the week of January 1st. Kennedi said, “It was an honor that coach decided that I should be Athlete of the Week.”

Miller has played basketball for ten years. Throughout an entire week, she spends approximately ten hours either practicing, playing, or training for basketball. Miller said, “Basketball has taught me how to become a better person and deal with real world situations.”

A basketball memory that stands out the most to Miller was when the team made state in last years region tournament.

When it comes to the team, Miller enjoys the chemistry that the team shares. This year the girls’ varsity team received a new coach, Coach Carlyle, and Miller said she likes “her hunger to win and … enthusiasm on defense.”

By the end of the season, Miller hopes to improve her shooting and her left hand abilities. With the season only halfway over, a successful season to Miller is making the state tournament this year, so her hopes for the season are still in progress.

Although the girls’ varsity team has started off the season with a record of 3-7, the score differential in their losses has ranged from 22 points against Lambert to 4 points against New Manchester, as well as a 59-55 loss in double overtime against Whitewater.

The Lady Chiefs will play next tonight, January 10, against Harris County at home with a tip-off time of 6:00. Unable to make the game? Updates will be available on Twitter at mcintosh_trail.

Athlete of the weeks are given out weekly at the school, depending on performances done by McIntosh athletes.
