Junior Kasey King was awarded athlete of the week on September 27. When she found out she was athlete of the week, King said,” I was shocked and humbled.”

King has cheered since the sixth grade. On average, she spends 10 to 12 hours a week with her team in the gym.

The memory that stands out most for King was last year, when she cheered on her brother at his last football game as a Chief.

When it comes to the team aspect of cheering, King enjoys the work ethic of her teammates. King said, “I love that we get to experience the Friday Night Lights together.”

King hopes to improve the team’s ability to get the crowd into chants at games in order to help encourage the Chiefs.

Cheerleading has taught King time management and to put forth the most positive version of herself. King said, “Cheer has made me grow to be confident in myself, patient with others, and reliant on my savior.”

By the end of the season, King hopes to cheer on the Chiefs to a win against Starr’s Mill and a win in the playoffs.

Athlete of the Week awards are given out weekly at the school. Athletes are selected based on performance during the season.
