Girls varsity soccer team wins state championship

The Lady Chiefs and the students who traveled to Macon to support them celebrate together after the team won the state title.

The Lady Chiefs beat Columbus High School in the state championship (4-0) at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.,  on Saturday, May 14. The game was scoreless at halftime. About 15 minutes into the second half, senior Caroline Laux scored the first goal of the game to give the Lady Chiefs a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, junior Taylor Malasek scored. Senior Caroline Laux scored again with 25 minutes left in the game to give the Lady Chiefs a 3-0 lead. With 15 minutes left, senior Caroline Laux scored again giving her a hat-trick in her last game.  The final score of the game was 4-0. After the game, senior Taylor Butler said, “I’m grateful that the team made this such an unforgettable season, and they never gave up throughout the season.”
