Australian Open concludes

This year’s Australian Open, the first major competition for the 2015 season, concluded in Melbourne, Australia. The men’s final was held February 1, and the women’s final was held January 31. British number one and World number six Andy Murray played Serbia and World number one Novak Djokovic at Rod Laver Arena. American and World number one Serena Williams played Russian and World number two Maria Sharapova.

Sophomore Andrew Obsitnik said, “Djokovic is the world’s best tennis player, and he deserve[d] to win it all.” Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in both the 2011 and 2013 Australian Open finals. Djokovic has competed in four Australian Open finals, and has won all four.

Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova 6-3, 7-6 in a dominant showing by the American number one. In the Men’s Singles Final, Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0 to become the most winning men’s singles player at the Australian Open since the Open Era began.
