The Braves are still in the thick of the race as they battle to squeeze into the playoffs

September is here, and that means that we are heading for the home stretch in the Major Leagues. While some teams claw for much needed wins, others have long lost hope for this season and are already looking to next year.

In the AL Central, NL Central and NL West, the race is tight with division leaders not leading by any more than three games over second place.  Also, for those teams just trailing the division leaders, there are four wild card spots up for grabs.  Two of these spots for American League teams and two more for National League teams.  These races are usually very tight, and this year is no exception.  However, “We mustn’t forget that baseball is just a game” said sophomore Jack Buckles.

According to ESPN. com, In the American League (AL), the Oakland Athletics and the Detroit Tigers currently hold the two wild card spots up for grabs, while four other teams in the AL remain within five games of that second wild card spot.  In the National League (NL), the San Francisco Giants and the Milwaukee Brewers currently hold the two wild card spots available while two other teams, including the Atlanta Braves, remain within five games of the second wild card spot.
