Cross country season starts at Bob Blastow Invitational

The Chiefs cross country season began last Saturday, August 23, at the Bob Blastow Early Bird Invitational at Clinton Farms in Douglasville. The varsity boys ran first at 7:50 a.m. followed by varsity girls at 8:15 a.m. The team left MHS at 5:30 a.m and got back from the meet around 2:00 p.m.

The varsity boys team, led by junior Connor Reynolds who ran the 5K in 16:56 (twelfth place), took third place. The varsity girls team, led by junior Alyssa LeClaire in tenth place with a time of 19:58, also placed third.

The junior varsity girls team placed second, led by senior Samantha Roberson in 22:43 and freshman Caroline Baynes in 22:44. Freshman Josh Bowers led the junior varsity boys team with a time of 18:59 in tenth place.

The open boys team took home a second place trophy, led by junior Nathan Stembridge in eighth place with a time of 19:32. Freshman John Karafanda finished five seconds later in tenth place. Freshman Tahira Jones led the open girls team in 25:05.

The next cross-country meet will take place this Saturday, August 30, at the Battle of Atlanta at Nash Farms in Hampton.
