The soccer teams will take on Starr’s Mill on Tuesday, April 22.

After the rain on Friday, baseball game against Starr’s Mill High School has been postponed to Thursday, two days after the soccer game against the rival team.

Chiefs made a victory against the Panthers one month ago at Starr’s Mill. They won 6-4 after Dane Bullock hit a triple with the bases loaded. However, the game was close until this point, so Thursday should be an interesting game. Pitcher and senior Charlie Goedtke says, “This is my first opportunity to beat Starr’s Mill twice in a season. I’m hopeful to make the playoffs with my team.”

Boy’s soccer will also be an exciting game. Much like the football games and basketball games, part of what makes the game so exciting is the intense rivalry between the schools. With shouting and heckling from both sides of the stadium, it can be tough for players to focus. Starr’s Mill and McIntosh have always been fairly evenly matched, until last year, when the Chiefs rose above the rest and was named the #1 team in the nation. The Lady Chiefs are currently undefeated while the Lady Panthers have three loss including one against Northgate who were last year’s state champions.

Because of the rain on Friday, the soccer team’s game against Houston County, who they defeated last year 2-0 for the state championship, was rescheduled for this Wednesday, the day after the Starr’s Mill game. One thing that set last year’s team apart was their physical ability and strength, so hopefully this will continue over as they play two intense games back to back.

With both games, it will be important for players to remain focused on the game, not the rivalry. The Trail has faith that they will represent their school well.
