Chiefs block the gate with huge win over Vikings

On November 1, the Chiefs faced the Northgate Vikings in hopes of earning a playoff spot.

For the past week, there was more animosity between McIntosh and Northgate than any of the past seasons. The two schools met earlier in the week for the Final Four game for volleyball where the Lady Chiefs swept the Lady Vikings. After the match, Northgate fans began to cheer, “See you Friday” and they seemed sure they were going to win while the Chiefs also seemed confident.

On Friday, the Chiefs controlled the entire game. Senior Victor Nguyen had a dominant game with three touchdowns of the five touchdowns scored by the Chiefs, and the defense, who only gave up 14 points, led by seniors Jake Carney, Josh Reynolds, and Jim O’Neill had one of their best games since Ola where they only gave up six points.

Northgate tried to make this game a rivalry game. Multiple Vikings players attempted to start fights and athletes even started talking back to McIntosh coaches. At least two Vikings players got ejected from the game, and two students were removed from the game. The Chiefs, however, kept their cool and didn’t get too involved in the fights.

The Chiefs won 37-14, and the win means the Chiefs will host the playoff game against the Drew Titans next Friday.
