The biggest weekend in women’s college basketball has arrived, as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Tournament has narrowed down to its Final Four.
Set for Friday, April 3, this year’s matchups feature a familiar lineup: the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies face the South Carolina Gamecocks, while the Texas Longhorns take on the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins. In a rare repeat, all four teams return from last year’s Final Four, promising highly competitive games.
With the national championship scheduled for Sunday, April 5, each team enters the weekend with experience and high expectations. Many players are also projected top prospects in the upcoming WNBA draft, adding another layer of intensity.
But as the tournament reaches its peak, one program stands out.
The UConn Huskies enter the Final Four undefeated, carrying a perfect record and momentum few teams can match. The Huskies’ coach Geno Auriemma, already holding 11 national championships under his belt, continues to set the standard for excellence in women’s college basketball.
For UConn fans like me, those numbers aren’t just statistics. They’re proof that UConn isn’t just good, but built to finish on top. Even against a powerhouse like South Carolina, their consistency, experience and talent makes them a hard team to beat.

With an undefeated season behind them, top scorers on the roster and a coach who knows how to win when it counts, UConn has the tools to make that prediction a reality, if they are able to maintain their consistency from this season.
In my March Madness bracket, a sports bracket that maps out the teams participating in the tournament, I have UConn advancing past South Carolina and then facing UCLA in the championship game, where they take the title once again, making them back-to-back national champions. While every team in the Final Four is capable of surprise, the Huskies’ championship legacy and undefeated season make them my pick to “cut down the nets” on Sunday.
