On May 5 2025, the 73rd annual Met Gala was held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The theme for the exhibition was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This theme was focused on the history of Black dandyism, which was, “a fashion revolution, a movement steeped in history, resistance, and pride,” according to Vogue. The theme was also inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The dress code was “Tailored For You,” which included tailored items like suits.

My personal favorite look belonged to Cynthia Erivo. Erivo kept a perfect balance between masculine and feminine, with the sleeves of a suit but the corset and skirt of a dress. The pattern of the rhinestones also looked amazing. Sarah Burton, the designer from Haute Couture truly did an amazing job with this design.

Second is Gina Alice Redlinger’s look. The pearls and the lace skirt paired with the velvet gloves and train really brought this look together. The accessories keep a feminine but intimidating look. Designed by Kim Kassas Couture, this outfit really stuck out to me.

Third is Danielle Deadwyler’s outfit. I feel like the long sleeve shirt under the dress was a smart move for this theme, making it masculine but keeping the femininity with the corset and skirt. I also like how the train is attached to the skirt. I feel like we don’t see stuff like that very often.

In fourth is Anok Yai’s outfit, designed by Thom Browne. I love the black and white theme she kept throughout the look. The white collar with the white train blend perfectly with the black dress and neck tie. The gloves paired with the glitter on her dress give an elegant look that I love.

Lastly, Jennie Kim’s look was designed by Pieter Mulier. Again, the black and white theme is something I quickly noticed in this outfit. Also, the pearls across her stomach gave her a classy look. The flower and her hat also gave this outfit its own unique sense. The pants under her dress keep the outfit on theme, and I love that it was added.
