H@shtags: everything in social media

Trending topics of the week and what to keep your eye on

My hot take on this week’s hashtags? “*GASP*! Oh my god! I love this question!” Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet have hard-launched their relationship at Beyonce’s birthday concert and I’m living for them. Their relationship has been speculated since early 2022 and their romance was a very unexpected pairing in some people’s eyes but they put a rest to the rumors by giving love birds at the concert.

My favorite Jonas brother is getting a divorce from his wife, Sophie Turner, being confirmed on Turner’s Instagram. I would hope everyone knows who these people are but for those who don’t. Joe Jonas who is one-third of the famous boy band with his siblings, the Jonas Brothers and Sophie Turner is a actress known for roles in “X-Men” and “Game of Thrones.” The couple has been married since 2019 and have two kids together. Sources say that it was an amicable separation so let’s hope things don’t go “slipping into the lava.”

On a more serious note, it seems that the internet is in a justified outrage after a Black woman is hit in the face with a brick because she refused to give her number to a man – while other men stood around and watched it happen. A lot of people have been on TikTok and X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) saying that the men were right in not defending the woman because they don’t know her and others are on the side of “see something, say something.” It is truly a running theme of men not taking rejection well from women or women having to play nice with a man so he doesn’t retaliate. Not my tea, all I’m going to say is protect Black women because there’s no reason that the violence that was acted upon this young woman is being lost in the social media fog of what was clearly wrong in this situation.

Now follow this: My favorite creator of the week is @monetmcmichael. She is a lifestyle influencer that I’ve watched since 2020 and basically fell in love. She encourages her fans to boss up like she has, promotes self-love and gratitude and just exudes good vibes.
