Some students want to change the legal drinking age

The legal drinking age in Georgia and across the nation is 21 years old. Some students at McIntosh want to convert the United States’ drinking policy to one similar to Germany’s.
Senior Chai Eckley said, “The United States is too hard with their drinking laws. The drinking and license system should be similar to Germany’s, so people understand alcohol before they start to drive.”
Though many groups like the group Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) do not agree with this policy, some young adults believe this system would be helpful to decrease drunk driving.
Senior Dale Harp said, “I believe when high [schoolers] go to college, they don’t understand alcohol, and they make bad choices. If high school students learned what alcohol does to them at a younger age, not as many people would make bad decisions in college.”
