Heavy traffic frustrates students
Mar 23, 2016
Every day at 3:45 p.m. the final bell for school rings, and the parking lot is stormed with students trying to get out before traffic becomes a nightmare.
Because there are only two ways for students to leave in cars, and only one way to leave in golf carts, traffic get very hectic very quickly. The largest problem is Walt Banks Road. On one side it has a light, and on the other, a four-way intersection, neither of which were designed to handle the volume of cars that are pouring out from McIntosh’s parking lots.
The four-way intersection runs along Peachtree Parkway, and a popular golf cart path crosses on both sides. Crossing guards are positioned there to ensure that the golf carts are not hit by cars, but this causes a huge backup of cars along Walt Banks. Since cars cannot leave the parking lot, many students are stranded and cannot even get out of their parking spots. Fear of being trapped on campus prompts students to make a mad dash to their cars every day in a competition to their cars first to avoid the traffic.
