Students deserve snack privileges

Teachers have access to snacks throughout the day, but students are prohibited from purchasing anything except whole-grain foods during their lunches.

Students often do not have time to eat a full breakfast before leaving for school, and so they become hungry between 8:35 a.m. and their lunch time, which for some students doesn’t begin until 1:02 p.m. Previously, students were able to visit the snack vending machines in the senior cafeteria during school hours to grab a quick snack, but last year the faculty disabled the machine during school hours, forcing the students to wait until lunch to purchase overpriced snacks that taste like cardboard.

It is not fair that the school allows teachers to purchase snacks on campus, but does not allow students. Sophomore Andrew Obsitnik said, “It’s unfair that I cannot buy a pack of Skittles during lunch, but teachers can.” Sophomore Emilio De la Mora said, “I wanted to buy some fruit snacks yesterday, but I couldn’t because students are not allowed to anymore.”
