Last year’s snow disaster made the board look bad in the public’s eye because there was an 80 percent chance of snow that day, yet they did not close school.

Even though there was a small possibility of snow Wednesday, February 25, with temperatures in the  40’s and a 70 – 90 % chance of rain, FCBOE decided to cancel school.

The decision that was made for Wednesday was a poor decision; however, delaying school on Thursday, February 26, was even more pointless. There was a 0% chance of snow, temperatures were expected to be above 35 degrees and there was a 10% chance of rain. At 8:00 a.m. temperatures were reaching the high 40’s. So why was school delayed?

The decision made me especially angry since the email was only sent out at 12:00 a.m. My family stops checking emails before dinner, around 5:00 p.m., and we are all asleep by 11:00 p.m. Since I knew there was a small possibility that school would be canceled, I checked the FCBOE website at 10:30 p.m. I was actually on my way to school when I found out that it had been delayed.

The poor decision that they made last year influenced them to be more fearful this year.
