Snow and significant ice wreak havoc on local roads and streets in Peachtree City.

This week McIntosh students will return after an icy week that will go down in the books as being absolute chaos.  While the National Weather Service knew that there was a possibility for major impacts in the Atlanta metro area due to a winter storm, it seemed as if the Fayette County Board of Education did not.

On Tuesday, the day of the storm, the Fayette County Board of Education decided to schedule classes as normal.  The decision in turn led to panic county-wide when McIntosh decided to release all student drivers and students riding in a car at 1:30 p.m.  Freshman Connor Whittle said, “Roads were crazy. On my way home, 54 was like a parking lot.”

Downtown Atlanta roads and interstates where many of these students’ parents work was a parking lot, too.  Because of the ice, some high school students in other counties had to spend a night at school while parents had to spend the night in their cars.  Hopefully, GDOT will be prepared next time we have a snowstorm of this proportion come to town.
