In Georgia on Nov. 4 and in early voting before that day Fayette county citizens were able to vote for the roles of Mayor, Post 3 and Post 4. Citizens were able to cast their vote at the Peachtree City Library. On Nov. 5, Mayor Kim Learnard posted a Facebook post confirming her win of another four years as mayor for Peachtree City.
Election Day occurs in Nov. every year and is “held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years,” according to Congress’ official website. It is a day in which Americans across the country vote for new public officials in federal offices. Elections are held for members of Congress, politicians at the local and state levels and for the president when the president’s four-year term is up. Elections that happen in years where there are no presidential elections are called off-year elections. This year was an off-year election meaning that members of Congress and local politicians were either re-elected or took new positions in office.
The city council and the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC), which is a state agency that deals with the regulation of Georgia’s “utility services, such as electricity, phones and gas,” held elections on Nov. 4. Georgia also held its municipal elections, the results of which can be found here.
