The McIntosh Choral Department held their fifteenth annual Spring Gala Last Thursday at 7 P.M., Friday at 7 P.M. and Saturday at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M. The tickets were $15-$18 dollars and it was in the McIntosh Auditorium. The two shows on Saturday were moved from 2 P.M. to 1 P.M. and 7 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. because of inclement weather.
“I hope [the audience] has a new understanding and appreciation for singers, actors and dancers for how much work we put in,” senior Lakiah Shah said.
Back in January, McIntosh Cantabile and Bella Voce groups went on their annual Gala retreat that they go on every year to practice for the show. Students go on this trip to practice choreography and do team building activities.
“We spend hours of dedication and hard work into making an amazing show,” Shah said.
The theme for this year’s show is “Out of this World.” The chorus has prepared songs that resemble stars, lights, and planets.
“Getting to experience this with great people has been the best part for me,” freshman Smith Maguire said.
This year there was a 36 chorus seniors, the biggest graduating class for McIntosh chorus.
“We have such a community in chorus created in spring gala and I’m excited to see future shows,” senior Shae Staples said.
Staples has been involved in the program for four years, and is now is the McIntosh Canitable Women which is the highest level for chorus.
“Being my last show it has been happy and sad, I think it’s such a full circle moment from my freshman year watching the seniors in caitable to now watching the freshmen in McIntosh Singers,” Staples said.
McIntosh students and chorus parents worked to make costumes, dances and overall maintain smooth transitions during the shows.
“Handling mics was a challenge I faced, but overall I had a good experience,” junior stage crew member River Boyle said.
