On Oct. 30, Kamala Harris gave her last speech in Washington D.C. as the Democratic nominee for President of the United states before election day.
Harris started her speech by talking about important events such as the civil unrest in 2020, and inflation during and after COVID-19, both of while happened while President Elect Donald Trump was in office. She discussed the decisions that Trump had made during his term.
Harris reminded the country she worked as a prosecutor and went up against banks, for-profit colleges, sex abusers and human trafficking.
”I have always had an instinct to protect. There’s something about people being treated unfairly or overlooked, that gets to me” Harris said.
One of the main concerns Harris focused on throughout her campaign has been the well-being, the safety and the welfare of the American people. Harris has been open about hearing opinions and coming up with solutions that are best for everyone, on both sides of the aisle.
“What I promise you, I will always listen to you even if you don’t vote for me,” Harris said.
On Nov. 6, the day after the election, Harris addressed her loss in her concession speech. Once the results became official, Harris reached out to opponent and presumptive President Donald Trump to congratulate him on his win. Harris won 226 electoral college votes and Trump won a total of 312. While Harris won over the big states California and New York, Trump also won big states like Texas and Pennsylvania.
“I spoke with President Elect Trump and congratulated him of his win and victory. I also told him that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” Harris said.
