On Saturday, March 2, a 15-year-old was shot during a gunfight with police at Six Flags over Georgia at around 6:15 P.M. A fight of up to 600 people occurred right outside the park. Social media footage was caught showing people in the crowds punching and beating up a person on the ground.
Ava Tomaro, a senior at McIntosh, is a regular Six Flags attendee and has trust in the security even after the incident.
“Parks do pretty well in preserving the safety of their guests so I’II have to trust them,” Tomaro said.
Before the shooting occurred, Cobb County Police were called to the park to break up the fighting crowd.
According to WSB-TV, “about 500 teenagers started shooting at the police when they arrived on the scene,”
Police returned fire and wounded a 15-year-old that was involved in shooting at the police. The next day, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), identified the teenager as Syere Littlefield.
Littlefield was charged with “aggravated assault on a police officer; aggravated assault; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; possession of a firearm under age 18; and interference with government property,” according to USA Today.
The next day, Six Flags Over Georgia released a statement regarding the incident on March 2.
According to 11Alive, Six Flags Over Georgia stated “Our goal is to provide safe, fun entertainment. We employ state of the art security systems and metal detection, maintain a robust and vigilant Public Safety Department, and have strong support from Cobb County Police who are present both inside and outside the park. Every guest is expected to follow our strict code of conduct and anyone unwilling to follow that code of conduct is unwelcome,”
No other injuries have been reported, and the police department of GBI has identified the officer who fired but have not released the name of that officer, GBI will continue on individual investigations and give the case over to Cobb County for further evaluation.
