State finalists have been announced for the Governor’s Honors Program.  Sixteen McIntosh students who excel in either communicative arts, engineering, math, music, science, social studies, theater, visual arts, or world languages are moving on to the state level.  These students have not only been nominated by their teachers, but also have survived an intensive interview.

Junior Tiffany Netto, selected for her scientific talent, said, “I’m excited to go to GHP and further expand on what I have been taught here.  I hope that I can represent McIntosh well.”

Junior John McCauley, selected for his mathematical talent said, “It’s great that I have been able to make it this far.  I am thankful for my nominating teacher, the administration, and my other teachers who have helped me get to this point”

Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Ms. Stacey Smith provided more information on the process. She said, “We have a strong group of GHP nominees this year.  The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) changed the format last year. Sixteen candidates will receive the state application from GOSA via email on November [18].  The nominees will proceed through a paper screening as a prerequisite for a state interview invitation.  The nominees are currently working to improve their county application in pursuit of a state interview scheduled for February [13].  Our faculty’s input and assistance are vital to the nominees’ success moving forward.  The nominating teachers assist with perfecting the grammar and writing technique utilized in the application.”
