The McIntosh debate team went to Calhoun, Georgia, on Oct. 3 to participate in their second debate tournament of the year.  The team returned late that evening with two awards.  Sophomore Lia Hill won first place in novice Lincoln Douglas, a philosophical type of debate, and sophomore Samuel Ellis won second place out of 46 speakers in open public forum.

When asked about their wins, Lia said, “I really enjoyed getting to compete in Lincoln Douglas for the first time this year and win.  I was the only one for McIntosh, but I still really enjoyed it, and I hope that I can win again at our next tournament.”  Samuel said, “It certainly was a pleasurable surprise receiving the award, but it really is a matter of just being eloquent and relatable to the judge because in the end we’re all human.”
