An unplanned fire drill interrupted c lunch on Sept. 17. Sophomore Reina Garrett said, “I was pretty angry  and surprised the fire alarm went off during lunch. I wasn’t really sure where I was supposed to go, but I just followed the crowd.”

Administrators quickly ushered students from the cafeteria into the front parking lot. About five minutes after the alarm went off, two fire trucks arrived with firefighters dressed in full gear.

About 20 minutes into the drill, students closest to the front lobby were instructed to move back to within five feet of Walt Banks Rd.

Although there are many rumors pertaining to the fire alarm, Mr. Daniel Lakly said, “It was not a drill. A bad smoke detector triggered the fire alarm: therefore, it caused everyone to evacuate the building. The county facility has since come to fix the smoke detector.”

Mr. Keith Haber said, “The procedure of the fire alarm went very smoothly. Mr. Lakly did a great job evacuating the students from the building and readjusting the class schedule for the rest of the day.”
