McIntosh’s annual Poetry Out Loud competition be held Dec. 9 in the auditorium. Participating in Poetry Out Loud gives students the opportunity to express their love for poetry by reciting a poem they select from the website: www.poetryoutloud.org.

Sophomore Sophie Roggermeier said, “I would like to participate in Poetry Out Loud because I feel like it will be a good experience, and I really like English. I feel like [poetry] is very valuable. Interpreting and appreciating poetry is an important skill in literature, but it can also be applied to life and that is good for students.”

Poetry Out Loud is a national organization that is currently celebrating a decade of partnership with the 50 states, according to their website. The organization was created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation as a way to introduce students to poetry and encourage students to become involved with the arts.
