Republicans win big in mid-term elections

The country’s mid-term elections have come to a close for the most part, and the Republican Party fared well, winning a multitude of key swing states.  In Georgia, a swing state that was predicted to bleed blue after a runoff, Republican David Perdue prevailed over the Democrat Michelle Nunn.  Other key states that bled red as a result of the elections were Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, Arkansas and Kentucky.

These results affect not only the states listed, but also the Senate making tensions higher.  The Senate, which is currently led by Harry Reid and the Democratic Party, will in January be headed by the Republican Party instead.

Such a dramatic change could reverse what types of bills flow through Congress.  At McIntosh, freshman Sam Ellis said, “I feel that the result of these elections will provide a positive impact for the progression of this country.”  However, with tension being high, there are students who oppose the results of this election.  Senior Mikey Muller said, “I disagree with the way Republican politicians carry out their goals, and I disagree with their reasoning behind some of their policies.  Immigration reform is one in particular.”
